Technology, Safety & Home Care.
Your Safety: Rigorous Infection Control
The cornerstone of a safe dental practice is trust. Dr. Maria and our entire team follow the strict universal precautions and guidelines set by OSHA, the EPA, and the CDC to protect our patients and staff alike.
- Sterilization Standards: We use an advanced autoclave sterilizer that utilizes steam, heat, and pressure to eliminate bacteria and viruses from all reusable equipment, including dental handpieces.
- Surface Disinfection: All countertops and surfaces undergo rigorous chemical disinfection between every patient visit to ensure a sterile environment.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Our team utilizes disinfectant hand sanitizers, medical-grade gloves, and face masks for every procedure.
- Disposable Materials: Whenever possible, we use high-quality disposable materials to eliminate any risk of cross-contamination.
Advanced Technology & Precision
When you seek care at our office, you are assured that Dr. Maria utilizes the latest technology to enhance both the safety and the fit of your dental work.
- Microscope-Enhanced Dentistry: Dentistry is micro-surgery. By using microscope-enhanced glasses, Dr. Maria can perform incredibly precise work that simply isn't possible with the naked eye, ensuring your restorations fit perfectly.
- Low-Radiation Digital Radiographs: We follow strict guidelines on when X-rays are taken. Digital radiographs allow us to detect cavities, analyze bone health, and examine roots with minimal exposure time compared to traditional film.

Post-Procedure Home Care Instructions
Your recovery and long-term success are our top priorities. Please follow these guidelines to ensure a comfortable healing process.
After Composite (White) Fillings
- Manage Numbness: Avoid chewing and hot beverages until your anesthesia has completely worn off to prevent accidental biting or burning of the tongue and lips.
- Sensitivity: You may experience temporary pressure or temperature sensitivity for 24-48 hours. Over-the-counter relievers like Ibuprofen or Tylenol typically alleviate this tenderness.
- Bite Adjustments: If your bite feels "high" or uneven after the numbness fades, please call us for a complimentary adjustment.
After Crown & Bridge Appointments
- Protect the Temporary: Avoid sticky (gum) or hard foods on the side of your temporary restoration. If a temporary comes off, save it and call us immediately so we can re-cement it to prevent your teeth from shifting.
- Cleaning: Brush normally, but floss carefully. Instead of pulling the floss up, pull it out through the side to avoid dislodging the temporary crown.
- CT Quality Labs: We use high-quality local Connecticut labs and full-arch impressions to ensure your final restoration has a precise, comfortable fit.
After Tooth Extractions
- Protect the Blood Clot: Do not rinse vigorously, use straws, smoke, or drink alcohol for 72 hours. These actions can dislodge the clot, leading to a painful "dry socket."
- Manage Swelling: Apply an ice pack to the area for 20 minutes on/off during the first 48 hours to keep swelling to a minimum.
- Diet & Activity: Stick to nutritious soft foods and limit vigorous exercise for 24 hours to prevent increased bleeding at the site.
Advanced Technology for Better Outcomes
- Precision Microscopy: Dr. Maria utilizes microscope-enhanced dentistry to perform microsurgery with incredible accuracy. This ensures a more conservative treatment and a more comfortable recovery.
- Digital Radiography: Our digital X-rays use minimal exposure time to detect hidden issues, bone health, and trauma with precision that traditional film cannot match.

Is digital dental imaging safe?
Yes. We use high-speed digital sensors that require significantly less radiation than traditional film X-rays. This technology allows us to see instantaneous, high-resolution images while prioritizing your long-term health.
Why does Dr. Maria use a microscope for my treatment?
Microscope-enhanced dentistry allows for surgical precision. It helps Dr. Maria identify microscopic cracks, ensure the most conservative tooth preparation, and achieve a "perfect fit" for crowns and bridges, which prevents future decay.
How do you ensure equipment is truly sterile?
We utilize a hospital-grade autoclave system that uses a combination of high-pressure steam and heat to kill 100% of bacteria and viruses. Our sterilization cycles are monitored and tested daily for complete safety.
What should I do if my temporary crown falls off over the weekend?
If your temporary crown comes off, don't panic. Keep it safe and call our office at 203-924-1613. You can often temporarily replace it using a small amount of toothpaste or over-the-counter dental adhesive (like Fixodent) until you can see us.
Is it normal to have sensitivity after a new filling?
Minor sensitivity to cold or pressure is normal for 24–48 hours as the tooth "settles." However, if your bite feels uneven or if the pain is increasing, please call us for a quick adjustment.
